Common Problems and Troubleshooting Tips

Yellow or Brown Leaves

Symptoms: Leaves appearing yellow or brown, usually starting at the center or spine of the leaf.
Cause: Usually overwatering.
Solution: Allow your tree’s soil to dry out completely, sometimes this can take 2-3 weeks. If you suspect sever overwatering, you may like to remove it from its pot to check for water damage. Keep in mind that overwatering can lead to more severe ailments like root root, which may eventually require you change the soil.

Yellow or Brown Edges – Underwatering

Symptoms: Leaves turning yellow or brown, usually at the edges.
Cause: Not enough water.
Solution: Your Ficus Audrey may be thirsty. Consider deeply watering it by placing it in a few inches of water (for example, in a bathtub) and letting it drink from the bottom up for a few hours or up to a day.

Leaf Drop - Overwatering or Underwatering

Symptoms: Leaves dropping from either the bottom of the plant or from all over the plant.
Cause: Usually overwatered trees will drop their bottom leaves, while underwatered trees will drop leaves from anywhere on the plant.
Solution: Follow instructions for either the over or underwatered Ficus Audrey.

Drooping Leaves - Too Warm and/or Dry

Symptoms: Sagging or drooping foliage.
Cause: The Ficus Audrey can sometimes exhibit drooping leaves in warm temperatures and if it is thirsty.
Solution: Give it a good drink of water. Possibly consider changing the location of your Ficus Audrey if the room gets too warm.

Seasonal Care Tips

In spring, as your Ficus Audrey enters its active growing phase, increase watering slightly, ensuring the top 1-2 inches of soil dry out between waterings. This is also a great time to fertilize every 4-6 weeks and consider repotting if needed.

Rotate the plant occasionally for even growth, and introduce it gradually to brighter light if moving it outdoors. In winter, as growth slows, reduce watering, keeping the soil mostly dry to prevent root rot. Place the plant in a bright spot, away from cold drafts and heating vents, and wipe the leaves occasionally to remove dust and improve light absorption.
