Our Story by Léon & George

Léon & George was founded with a simple idea: to make it effortless to own beautiful living greenery. What began in a small San Francisco backyard greenhouse has grown into a nationwide brand, delivering thoughtfully curated plants and designer planters straight to your door. Nearly a decade later, our mission remains the same: transforming interiors with greenery that inspires, uplifts, and endures. Follow along on our plant-inspired journey.

2016

In a small apartment in San Francisco's Noe Valley, two beloved pets, Léon (a curious tabby cat) and George (a playful green cheek conure), inspired us to bring more life indoors. We started delivering plants all over the Bay Area, sometimes even hopping in an Uber with a Fiddle Leaf Fig riding shotgun.

2017

We upgraded from our backyard to our very first distribution center, a small, multi-use office and warehouse in the Mission. It was a humble space, but it meant more room for plants, more care, and more happy homes.

2018

Plant delivery now open in Los Angeles! We also opened our first IRL shopping experience, a small pop-up shop at the front of our San Francisco distribution center. With the occasional cutting swap and intimate concerts, it quickly became a neighborhood favorite.

2019

We began shipping small and medium plants to share the love for beautiful California-grown greenery nationwide. While we closed our pop-up with dreams of reopening something bigger and better, we didn’t know what was just around the corner…

2020

The pandemic put retail expansion on pause, but our online business grew significantly as people turned their attention inward, investing in their well-being and their homes. We were proud to provide greenery that brought comfort, beauty, and connection during that time.

2021

A new home base. All operations moved to Los Angeles, where we could be closer to our growers and sourcing for our planters. This shortened our fulfillment time and gave us space to scale and reach new customers.

2023

We were first to launch nationwide shipping for extra-large plants up to 6ft tall, making bold, statement greenery available in homes and offices across the country. We also unveiled our line of Plant Care Elixirs, crafted in small batches in Los Angeles, formulated to nourish and protect indoor greenery so they can thrive for years to come.

Nearly a decade in and we’re just getting started: rooted, thriving, and ready for exciting chapters ahead. From inspiring plant varieties to designer vessels and tailored care services for budding plant parents, we continue to grow while staying true to our promise: making it effortless, and joyful, to keep nature a part of everyday life.
